4 Myths about fat burning

MYTH #1: ABDOMINAL EXERCISES HELP BURN FAT

While abdominal exercises can help you develop a six-pack and strengthen your core muscles, they won’t necessarily burn fat around your midsection.

Yes, any kind of exercise helps burn fat, but we’re specifically talking about targeted fat loss here. No matter how many sit-ups or crunches you do, they won’t make the fat on your stomach disappear.

MYTH #2: YOU NEED TO AVOID CARBOHYDRATES TO BURN FAT

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. To burn fat and lose weight, you need to be in a calorie deficit. Reducing your carb intake can lead to a calorie deficit, so avoiding carbs can actually help you lose body fat, but carbs aren’t really your main enemy. Don’t give them a hard time.

In fact—brace yourself—carbs can actually help you lose body fat, since they provide plenty of energy so you can train hard. And when you work out, you burn fat and even build muscle. Without carbs, your performance might fall below optimal levels.

However, make sure to eat fewer simple, refined carbohydrates! Instead, opt for rice and sweet potatoes—they serve as better fuel for your workouts. You won’t have any reason to complain. …Complex carbohydrates keep you full longer, so by snacking less and eating smaller portions, you can easily create a calorie deficit and burn fat.

MYTH #3: YOU NEED TO CUT FATS OUT OF YOUR DIET

People gain weight because of excess calorie intake. Let’s say it again: to lose fat, you need to be in a calorie deficit! So you need to reduce your total calorie intake, but that doesn’t mean you have to cut out fats. Certain fats are essential for a healthy diet.

MYTH #4: YOU ONLY NEED TO DO CARDIO TO LOSE FAT

Cardio plays an important role, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only thing you should do. There’s a limit to how many calories you can burn before you run out of energy, so aim to move as much as possible throughout the day! You burn calories during group classes, weight training, and even when climbing stairs. The key is to move as much as possible. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, and park farther away from the store entrance! See, fat burning isn’t just cardio, cardio, cardio

SUMMARY

Fats and carbohydrates aren’t our enemies, just as cardio isn’t our only friend. And remember, you can’t lose weight from your belly alone! The truth hurts, but it’s better to be aware of it than to grope around in the dark.
